Big Fat List of 2020

Big Fat List of 2020

Big Fat List of 2020

I'm instead saying goodbye to 2020 by doing my best to look on the bright side and focus on all the good musical things the year brought our way.

Musicians were forced to think about things differently, as fans we were encouraged to engage in new ways and, while it wasn't the same heady rush as a packed gig, there were many ways we were introduced to something more special.

So, I'm not sharing my albums of the year list (though if I were, I'd definitely stick Deftones, Man of Moon, Dave Jakes and Biffy Clyro on there) and instead giving a wee list of my favourite music-related highlights.

Reissues of some of my favourite albums on vinyl

2020 saw my outgoings change from gig tickets to vinyl releases and few got me quite as excited as the re-issue of albums from both Kerbdog and Reuben

Post Malone proving it can be done

It takes some mighty stones to decide to cover Nirvana but a whole set? Risky business indeed! Yet, the boy done good, better than good. Loved it.

Biffy Album Launch Livestream

It was emotional watching a gig from an empty Barras but this live stream from Biffy Clyro celebrated both album and venue.

Social media for good

Tim Burgess has transformed Twitter in 2020 with his listening parties and created a surprisingly uplifting collective listening experience for fans of all genres.

Chills at the church

Twilight Sad from Oran Mor is another amazing example of creating a beautiful film of amazing songs in a special venue. Us Scots are good at this it seems!

MoPOP Founders Award 2020

Alice In Chains honoured by an exciting range of bands covering their iconic songs was a definite 2020 highlight.
